Specimen deformation can be measured in two ways:
Direct reading
: the measurement is made with an extensometer measuring the deformation accurately on the specimen gage length.
The International Standards indicate if these instruments are needed or not.
Indirect reading
: the measurement is made using the test machine encoder.
